Today is all about Charlene Smith....

Today is all about Charlene Smith...Canadian Soul singer who has been a firm favourite of mine since I first encountered her albums. Feel The Good Times (1995) and Life Is High (1997) were released on China Records (Warner Bros, Canada).

Everything she recorded in the 90s has stood the test of time and is still propa modern in every sense of the word. After experiencing success with her releases Charlene Smith exited the recording scene. Why she did so remained very much a mystery until she gave an interview which proved quite surprisingly revealing. (More about the interview further on). She decided to make a return to the music scene in 2009 after a ten year hiatus with plans to release an independent album not tied to corporate interests.  Some critics have likened her stylistically to Lisa Stansfield but personally I don't see this as I'm also fond of her work too. However, enough of the blather and more of the music which is why you're here, right?. These are 'choons' every propa modern soul dj and Soul lover needs to be resurrecting with good reason.

Released as a CD single with an official video
Feel The Rhythm (D' Influence Mix)  1997
Followed immediately next by the12" Remix of
Feel The Good Times (Old Skool Mix)

From her  first album 'I Learned My Lesson.' Link is on the photo so just click and visit to hear the recording.

Now if these don't whet your appetite to hear more then you really are going to miss out on a superb performer who does the real deal Soul thing. Both her early albums can still be found. So too can releases on vinyl in both 12" and 7" format. However you like your music Charlene Smith really does need checking out.

I said at the very beginning of today's feature that Charlene Smith had undertaken an interview explaining her absence from the music business. Well, you can read all about it by following the link below:

And also why not visit her site?  It's on Myspace. Just remember to hit the search button and enter her name to access more of her music and other info.
