Back in 2010 a group of performers got together to release a compilation album entitled United We Cure. The album was released to help raise money to combat breast cancer. The opening track, The Cure, was from Lalah Hathaway and Rahsaan Patterson which is featured today. Soulful and Smooth Jazz luminaries appearing on the album include Will Downing, Hil St. Soul, Brian Culbertson, Euge Groove and Kindred the Family Soul among others.
Lalah Hathaway, the daughter of the late Donny Hathaway, is yet another artist to come from an amazing musical heritage. (Her mother was a classically trained singer). Hailing from Chicago, Il. she began performing professionally in the latter part of the 1980s. Her first album was released in 1990. Subsequently she has released a further five, the most recent in 2011. Her bio makes for very interesting reading as the lady has a multi faceted approach to her musical career which is quite a revelation. Rahsaan Patterson is particularly well known so I won't dwell on him today as he will be featured in the future. Back to the track. An interesting pairing and not one you would expect to see especially given their differing musical paths. See what you think.
