Alicia Myers - Weekend (2011)

Detroit born Alicia Myers moved to L.A. in 1972 where she began her singing. She has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a soulful vocalist. She was a member of Al Hudson & The Soul Partners which evolved into One Way. All this was back in the 70s. In fact, she co-wrote One Ways big dance hit 'You Can Do It' (1979). 1980 saw her going solo releasing 4 albums in succession on MCA, the final one I Appreciate in 1984.  Apart from a couple of single releases in the following years it was not until 2011 that she released her fifth album: Peace of Mind. Today's featured track is taken from it. It's a familiar themed song about how the weekend is so important to one's life bringing a release from  work-a-day existence to which we find ourselves tied. Dancer's in most venues will readily empathise with the sentiment expressed in the lyrics. Alicia Myer's has retained a great vocal presence and this is most definitely in 'propa modern' Soul territory. Beautifully arranged and produced  with a smooth jazz feel it's just simply a great choon. (Click on the album cover to hear Weekend).
