Maysa - Friendly Pressure (2002)

I confess to owning pretty much most albums Maysa Leak has released starting with All My life back in 1999. Maysa runs a parallel music lifestyle. Singing with Incognito and as a solo singer her recorded output is now quite considerable. On stage she is a formidable performer whose soulful performances are very much jazz influenced. Hardly a surprise given the undoubted influence of Incognito. However, she draws on a variety of musical traditions incorporating for example old skool Soul and Latin influences always wrapped up in someway in a jazz package. The clue to her love in life; her son is called Jazz

From the Baltimore area (and still living there) she graduated from Morgan State University and almost immediately began working as one of Stevie Wonder's backing singers, Wonderlove. In the early 90s she auditioned for Incognito and was accepted. Since then she has featured on most of Incognito's prodigious album output as well as having now released 8 albums of her own. Friendly Pressure, today's feature, track is taken from 2002 album Out of the Blue.  Amongst her many recordings this remains one of my top drawer favourites. Have a listen.
